Seguin is the capital city of Guadalupe County, Texas. As of the 2019 census, the population was estimated to be 29,992. It has a land area of 99.65 km² (38.48 sq miles). The city was named in honor of Juan Nepomuceno Seguín. He was a Tejano Texian political and military figure who contributed greatly to the independence of Texas. Seguin is only a 36-minute drive from San Antonio and a perfect getaway for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city.

The World’s Largest Pecan

Indeed, everything is bigger in Texas. The Pecan Saga that started in 1962 will not be ending anytime soon as Seguin continues to hold and fight for its claim of being, “Home of the World’s Largest Pecan”. In 1982, a city in Missouri built a massive much bigger pecan and started sending postcards to Seguin’s Chamber of Commerce hoping that the city would drop its claim. Seguin did not yield and in 2011, a brand new massive pecan was unveiled and paraded around the city. Get your picture taken and have a laugh with this gigantic nut in front of the Guadalupe County Courthouse located downtown.

Nutcracker Museum

The city used to be one of the largest growers of pecans in the country. And it’s not a surprise why it has one of the world’s largest collection of nutcrackers. Wander in their collection of nutcrackers inspired by past presidents, Star Wars, Wizard of Oz and more. With over 8,000 different nutcrackers, Nutcracker Museum is an interesting place that you must visit while in Seguin. And while you’re there, don’t forget to grab some pecans. It comes in different flavors and in various size bags which will make a great gift to friends and family once you’re back home.

If you’re a lover of craft beer, then hit this place on West Gonzales Street. They serve excellent craft beers in different styles and varieties. Their flagship beer, “Honey Pecan #5” is a must try variety for its well balanced malt forward flavor and subtle honey aroma. Once you’ve tasted their ale, you will keep coming back to Seguin for more.

The Heritage Museum

This old building is home to the Guadalupe County’s historical artifacts that have been collected and preserved since 1898. They have an array of Native American artifacts, fossils and some original pottery from their local manufacturer, the Wilson family. It’s a go to place especially for visitors who are traveling in Seguin for the first time. You will definitely get informed of the city’s history and the culture in this museum.
